I lucked into being asked to design the book cover for the collected poems of Andrew Cox. The book title is 'The Equation That Explains Everything' and may hopefully be available soon on Amazon.com.

As soon as she turned to see Camwegan he mustered all the strength he had and disappeared, heading for the nearest exit from the dining hall. Luckily it wasn't far, and with a little stealth he had slipped away unnoticed. His pride in successfully exiting the conversation was equaled only by the same he felt for the same act.
In his anger he found calm
In his confusion he found clarity
In his misery he found happiness
In his solitude he found belonging
In his somberness he found brightness
In his frustration he found encouragement
Because in her he had found warmth
In her pain she found relief
In her sorrow she found joy
In her weariness she found refreshment
In her disillusionment she found focus
In her loneliness she found companionship
In her desolation she found hope
Because in him she had found compassion

Rise tomorrow, love
... and kiss my rough cheek
... and touch me softly as I sleep
Rise tomorrow, love
... and whisper to me
... and talk so sweet
Rise tomorrow, love
... and hold me near
... and keep me here
Rise tomorrow, love
... and forget today
... and let us play
Rise tomorrow, love
... and a new day will dawn
... and keep moving on
Rise tomorrow, love
... and you will see
... and there I will be
(... repeat "Rise tomorrow")
She realized her mistake almost immediately. As she withdrew her hand, his tears disappeared, his face relaxed, and his demeanor transformed. Suddenly it was as if she were talking a completely different man. Where the previous one seemed distracted and nervous, this new man presented a calm reserve almost instantly. His hands had retreated from reach as his arms rested on the table like a wall guarding his heart.
It happened that day that both of their plans came to fruition. He had his moment to say goodbye at last and she her moment to get closer to him. Both had failed miserably. His carefully planned goodbye was met with skepticism and her digging found nothing but hard ground.
I hesitate to love you
Not for the sake of my own heart
But for the sake or yours
For I have never loved a woman
As deeply as I love you
And not left behind one heart
More broken than the other
Do you love me still
Or just when I move
Does your heart stir
Or does it just stand
Do you hold fast
Or just try to hold on
Do I set you atwitter
Or is it all just a noise
Do I send you aflutter
Or do I set you to flee
Do I leave you agog
Or just make you gag
Do I set your heart afire
Or merely stoke it to ire
Please I must know
Do you love me still
Or just when I move...
